Shop Local in Port Macquarie
One of the best things you can do when you visit Port Macquarie is skip the chains and shop local instead. This region has some genuinely brilliant independent retailers, makers and producers who put real heart into what they do. Here's where the locals actually shop.
Haus of Alma
Best Places to Shop in Port Macquarie
Haus of Alma - Fashion, Homewares, Gifts, Coffee:
If you want to go straight to Port Macquarie's pinnacle of style, this is the place. Formerly known as Meg & Me (a local institution in its own right), Haus of Alma has been beautifully reimagined with a fresh name and aesthetic, while keeping everything that made it great. Owner Lusanna and her team have curated a stunning edit of fashion, fragrances, accessories and homewares, stocking premium Australian and international labels including Mela Purdie, Morrison, OnceWas, Verge, Ottolenghi, Marimekko and more. The fit-out is gorgeous and Lusanna's personal styling advice is genuinely useful, not just flattering.
And here's the clincher: there's a full espresso bar as well. Co-owner Ant has built a seriously loyal following for his carefully curated Haus Blend, and the idea of sipping a great coffee while you browse is, frankly, how all shopping should work. You can also book a personalised styling session with Lusanna if you want the full VIP treatment (cost redeemable on purchase).

The Murray Street Shopping Precinct
If you're shopping for a new baby, a special gift, or (honestly) yourself, LilliRose Design is one of those boutiques where everything seems to have been chosen with genuine love and good taste. Divine babywear, homewares and clothing with a beautiful sustainable sensibility. The kind of place where you pop in for a gift and come out with a bag for yourself too. Brands include Ceres Life and Rollie.
William Street
Also on this strip is Pearl and also the Chyc Collective. Both these boutiques stock quality fashion brands including Alemais and Sabbi. On the corner of Murray & Clarence is Pretty Rad, featuring trending streetwear labels, and across town on William Street our faves are The Village Market (retro vintage pieces and new funky labels), and Mothership Records.
Shopping Centres
Port Mac has two substantial shopping centres, with mostly chain retailers: Port Central on Clarence/Hay Streets (access car park via Murray St), and Settlement City on Park St (includes a Woolworths). Our picks here are BookFace bookshop, gifts and cafe, and Kaleidoscope (local art, accessories and more), both at Port Central.
Foodies:
Florence Jones Cheese & Wine
It’s a cheese & wine store where you can eat and sip in, or take it away! Right at the end of Clarence Street, overlooking Town Wharf and the Hastings River, Florence Jones is the kind of shop that makes you feel like you're living your best life. Owners Bronny and Suzanne have been in the food world for over 25 years and it shows. Their beautifully curated space is stocked with artisan cheeses, deli meats, pâtés, terrines, boutique wines, and local craft beers, plus all the pickles, olives and fresh breads you need to build the ultimate platter. You can settle in and eat on site (the river views at sunset are ridiculous), or grab a spread and take it to the beach. Either way, these two will steer you towards the perfect pairing with a smile. A proper find. Shop 4/74 Clarence Street, Port Macquarie | Wed-Thu 3pm-8pm, Fri-Sat 12pm-8pm, Sun 12pm-6pm florencejones.com.au | Ph: 0475 740 621
Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries
Take the short drive to Ricardoes, pick your own fresh strawberries straight from the vines, then head to the farm shop where you can buy their multi-award winning tomatoes and preserves.
Growers Market
Don't let the name fool you. Yes, Growers Market has been Port Macquarie's go-to for fresh fruit and veg for 50 years, but it is so much more than a greengrocer. This family-owned local legend is stocked with artisan fine foods, local honey and eggs, handmade pasta, gourmet ingredients (including a great selection of Asian staples that are surprisingly hard to find elsewhere), and health products you actually want to browse. There's also a fresh juice bar in-store, staffed by friendly people who clearly love what they do.
For locals, this is a weekly ritual. For visitors, it's the perfect place to stock up on something delicious before a beach picnic, or to find a locally made treat to take home. Shop in-store or order online with free delivery over $50.

The Other Chef
Producing award winning jams, relishes, sauces, pickles and other essential condiments with locally sourced ingredients, head to the factory outlet on Merrigal Road to pick up some of this goodness. Gift Packs are beautifully packaged.
We also love…
Cassegrain Wines, Long Point Winery, Bago Maze & Wine & Douglas Vale Vineyard all sell take-aways and gift packs, and Maria River Distillery and Port Macquarie Distillery both produce small-batch spirits that make brilliant gifts for the person who has everything.
Gifts Worth Taking Home
Port Mac is genuinely good at this. Beyond the retailers above, here are a few more local favourites worth knowing about:
Hello Koalas Gallery and Gift Shop (2/1A Blackbutt Road) is the place for koala-themed art, exclusive merchandise and the famous Sculpture Trail maps. A total one-stop shop for Port Mac souvenirs that aren't tacky.
The Glasshouse Gift Shop (30-42 Clarence Street) stocks locally handcrafted homewares, accessories and art pieces, all carefully selected and genuinely unique. Well worth a browse even if you weren't planning to buy anything.
Billabong Zoo and Sea Acres Rainforest Centre both have excellent gift shops if you're out that way with the kids.
And if you're heading west to Wauchope (20 minutes up the highway, absolutely worth it), the Wauchope Creative Hub at 87 Cameron Street is a huge, rambling country shed packed with handmade goods from over 25 local artists and makers. It's a destination in itself.
Bonny Hills Garden Centre is one of our favourite places to hang out for an afternoon. Not just for green thumbs, there’s a great gift shop and cafe as well.
Outdoor Gear
Bowwa is a Port Mac success story born from a beach-loving local family's frustration with lugging gear to the sand. Their patented Bowwa Bucket carry system is genuinely brilliant, made from 100% recycled materials, and is the kind of thing you'll use every single week once you have one. Shop at bowwa.com.au.
Local Markets
And of course, check out our local monthly markets for handmade treasures from local artists, crafters and producers. You never quite know what you'll find, and that's half the fun.
