What it’s known for: A colourful and iconic public art trail of koala sculptures, including ‘The Big Koala’ at Guulabaa-Place of Koala.
Why do it: Part treasure hunt, part art experience, it’s the best free fun you can have in the region! The Hello Koalas sculptures appear throughout town, guiding visitors through parks, shops and cafés you might otherwise miss. Fun for kids, surprisingly addictive for adults. Each 1metre high fibreglass koala sculpture is hand painted by local and Australian artists, each with its own unique theme. You can download the Trail Map from the website and tick them off one by one or drop in to the Hello Koalas Gallery & Gift Shop on Blackbutt Road (check website as opening hours vary), or the Glasshouse on Clarence St (open 7 days). The largest sculpture is ‘The Big Koala’ located at Guulabaa - Place of Koala, and selfies are mandatory! You can now take a piece of this delightful experience home with you, with Hello Koalas gifts, merchandise and games available at the Gallery & Gift Shop and the Glasshouse.
