The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail
(And why everyone ends up loving this multi-award winning iconic Port Mac activity)
You don’t plan to do the Hello Koalas Trail.
You just sort of… start.
You’ll spot your first one near the river or outside a café. Bright. Bold. Slightly oversized. Someone’s taking a photo with it and a kid is hugging its leg.
And suddenly you’re looking for the next one. That’s how it works.
It turns into a treasure hunt
The sculptures are scattered all over town. Along the foreshore. In shops and cafes. In parks. Outside galleries. You think you’re just going for a walk, but before long you’re counting how many you’ve found. Kids get completely invested (and you will too).
They’re full of personality
Each koala is designed by an Australian artist, and they’re not generic. Some are funny. Some are beautiful. Some are unexpectedly clever. They all have their own story.
There are more than 90 in the collection and they move around, so even locals still get excited when they find one they haven’t seen before. It keeps the town feeling playful.
There’s meaning behind the colour
The trail celebrates Port Macquarie’s connection to koalas and the conservation work happening here. It’s a gentle reminder that this place cares deeply about its wildlife.
The best part
It’s free, the whole family will love it, and it gets everyone exploring and excited!
